Former CBOE Chief Digital Officer Joins Argo Blockchain as CEO

Former CBOE Digital Director Thomas Chippas has been named Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Argo Blockchain Company. He replaces Seif El-Bakly, who held the position on an interim basis. Former CEO Peter Wall stepped down last February.

A strategic appointment

Argo Blockchain, Bitcoin mining company listed on the London Stock Exchange and Nasdaq, has appointed Thomas Chippas as its new CEO and director. The company announced this news in A press release. She also communicated this important appointment to her community on the X social network.

Thomas Chippas is the former head of CBOE Digital. He is also the founder of the cryptocurrency exchange platform ErisX. Chippas’ appointment aims to bring premium expertise to the digital asset and financial services sector. His experience includes senior roles at Citadel Technology, Axoni, as well as Citigroup, Barclays and Deutsche Bank.

This change of direction comes later the departure of former CEO Peter Wall last February. Seif El-Bakly served in this position until Chippas’ appointment.

The new CEO will benefit 2.85 million units tied to Argo’s American Depositary Shares, subject to the achievement of certain objectives. And the Argo board could further increase that number of units to mark the anniversaries of its appointment.

This transition is part a turbulent time for Argo, which recently sold its Helios mining rig to Galaxy Digital and proceeded to successful fundraising to pay off debt.

According to data available on TradingView, Argo shares are trading around US$1.20 today, reflecting the company’s dynamic evolution. A year ago, a share of Argo was worth $0.7.
