MONTREAL, November 29, 2023 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) – Genetec Inc. (“Genetec”), a leader in unified security, public safety, operations and business intelligence solutions, today announces the results of its 2024 State of Physical Security Report. Based on responses from more than 5,500 physical security professionals across around the world (including end users and channel partners), the report examines the security strategies that organizations are implementing to effectively address the realities of a rapidly evolving industry.

Cloud adoption accelerates
Adoption of cloud-based physical security solutions has gradually increased over the past decade, but is currently accelerating. According to research, 44% of end users say more than 25% of their physical security deployments are now in the cloud or use a combination of cloud and on-premises solutions. We see a significant increase compared to last year’s survey, when it was just 24%.

Ease cybersecurity concerns in the cloud
Cybersecurity concerns about cloud-based solutions are decreasing significantly. In last year’s survey, end users believed that perceived cybersecurity risks were the biggest factor deterring their companies from adopting cloud-based security systems. However, it appears that attitudes are changing, reflecting growing confidence in the abilities of cloud solution providers to implement robust cybersecurity measures. In fact, in the 2024 survey, respondents relegated perceived cybersecurity risks to the sixth position of factors deterring their organization from adopting cloud security systems.

Channel partners expect increased demand for hybrid and cloud solutions
Channel partners also confirm that end users are increasingly turning to cloud solutions. In fact, 74% expect more of their current customers to adopt the cloud for their physical security solutions in the next year. Additionally, 39% say they prioritize cloud solutions whenever possible and 52% say they offer cloud solutions upon customer demand.

IT and physical security services are increasingly interconnected
The increasing adoption of cloud-based physical security systems has led to an increase in cybersecurity threats, data to be processed, and compliance requirements. As a result, IT and physical security teams are increasingly intertwined, as evidenced by the 55% of end users reporting that their IT department has access to physical security data. With the increasing adoption of technology and the widespread availability of remote access from external networks, collaboration between IT and physical security departments will continue to grow.

The future looks hybrid
It appears that most organizations will prefer a hybrid approach, combining on-premises and cloud solutions. 60% of end users surveyed reveal that their organizations seek a security deployment strategy that combines the two. The transition to hybrid systems is already underway, with 15% of end users saying their organizations currently store video surveillance data both locally and in the cloud, marking a sharp increase from last year’s survey of 4%.

A hybrid cloud deployment is clearly the ideal path for many organizations, seamlessly combining on-premises infrastructure with the power of the cloud “, says Christian Morin, vice president of product engineering and head of security at Genetec Inc. ” With a hybrid cloud solution, organizations can optimize their physical security configuration to better serve their business. And no matter how your security needs evolve, your systems will remain agile and adaptable to continue providing them with the capabilities they need. »

interviewed physical security professionals from August 21 to September 15, 2023. After a review of responses and data cleaning, 5,554 respondents (including end users and systems integrators) were included in the sample for analysis. The survey was conducted in all regions: North America, Central America, the Caribbean, South America, Europe, the Middle East, Africa, East Asia, South Asia, Southeast Asia, Central Asia, West Asia and Australia-New Zealand.
