The General Directorate of Customs of Côte d’Ivoire organized on January 8, 2024, within the National School of Customs, located in Plateau, a solemn ceremony to hand over equipment to various Directorates-General of Customs, as part of the preparations for the 2023 African Cup of Nations, which will take place in Côte d’Ivoire from January 13 to February 11, 2024. These customs brokers were equipped with 450 armbands, customs suits, rolling stock and various other devices to carry out their mission.
These include customs officers from the regional directorates of Yamoussoukro, Abengourou, Bouaké, Odienné, Korhogo and San-Pédro.
Furthermore, equipment was made available to complement customs control actions to teams at Félix Houphouët Boigny international airport, in Abidjan.
The Director General of Côte d’Ivoire Customs, General DA Pierre Alphonse, insisted on the need to give a warm welcome to “any foreigner crossing the soil of Côte d’Ivoire”.
He added that for this CAN, the different elements of customs must submit to different mechanisms and disposal strategies throughout this competition.
A particular action that, according to him, must be carried out by each agent placed on the ground, to honor the corporation he directs.
“Everyone has a role to play, everyone must be in their place. Success in an African Cup of Nations for some is the quality of the organization, for others, the quality of the reception, for still others it is the quality of teaching and catering and for those who are most expected, naturally the actors on the rectangle pitch, the objective will be to keep the African Cup of Nations in Côte d’Ivoire”, he hoped.
He also stated that ”for us, the customs administration, the State of Côte d’Ivoire expects us to do our job correctly, nothing more, nothing extraordinary, that we remain customs officials worthy of the name, to do what we have to do as well as what we do on a daily basis.” “I told you that the foreigners who arrive and the travelers who will come to this sports festival must be welcomed. And we must do our job well. It is because we want this job to be done well that we have equipped you with the necessary equipment to ensure the job is done correctly,” mentioned General DA Pierre Alphonse.
